Lex Wilson

is a writer and actor in Carrboro, North Carolina.

His stories have won the Eagle Award in comics and Writers of the Future in science fiction prose, with work appearing in Asimov’s, Analog, Outlaw Territory II (Image Comics), The Florida Review, and elsewhere (See Bibliography). Most recently he was a Narrative Director for Deck Nine Games.

He was a writer on the critically acclaimed console video game Life is Strange: Before the Storm (Deck Nine/Square Enix). Publisher’s Weekly has praised his “sharp ear for dialogue,” and Locus Magazine called him a “promising new writer.”

He’s originally from northern Ohio. He attended the last ever Clarion Writing Workshop in East Lansing, MI before it moved out to California. You might know him as “Alex.”

Everywhere. That’s not meant to be flippant.

I collect portfolios (or, more accurately, links to portfolios and websites) all the time over Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, conventions, my own reading, and recommendations. When I’m seeking a collaborator on a project, I review these bookmarks to see who’s work, history, and style might be a good fit.

If you’re an artist with a portfolio (sequentials are a MUST for comic book storytelling) please head on over the contact form and let me know the URL.

ACTING

My most widely seen major acting role to date is an episode of Homicide Hunter (Season 5, Episode 19: Stuck in a Coffin) for one of the Discovery channels. The next-most-seen role is probably a deleted scene on the Banshee (season 3) DVDs.

With voicework (mostly credited as “Alex Wilson”) I’ve narrated three stories for the popular science fiction podcast Escape Pod (and hundreds of other short stories, essays, and poems for other projects), and appeared in two audio dramas from Baen Books.

If you’re local or we frequent the same film festivals, then you might have seen me in a theater production or indie film, but…

The smaller projects–where my roles tend to be bigger– often never get finished or distributed. Such is the independent film world.

And the larger projects–where my roles tend to be smaller–often cut those characters whose roles are smaller. Such is Hollywood.

I recently dropped my acting agent to focus on writing and being more selective about acting projects.

I love preparing for auditions, but it can be time consuming and inconvenient, especially where they’re marked “urgent,” as they often tended to be for me in the Southeast film and television markets.

I love acting. I take the work seriously. But I’m passionate about projects, not about being an actor.

Thanks for your interest!

I’m being very selective about the acting projects I take on so I can better focus on writing, currently working full time on a video game. So I’m not actively auditioning.

But if you’ve read this far, you’ve seen my reel, and you think I’m a good fit for your project, I’d generally be happy to look at:

  1. A description of your project (please don’t send a script unless/until asked). I genuinely love a wide swathe of genres as a reader, writer, and performer. One of the few exceptions would be the “torture” subgenre of horror, so please look elsewhere.
  2. The name of your DP
  3. Your director’s reel (and/or your DP’s reel and/or your production company’s reel)
  4. The anticipated shooting location(s). Just the city/state is fine.

(If we’re friends and/or we’ve worked together before, feel free to omit some/most of that.)

Anyway, use the contact form for these, and I’ll be in touch! Thanks.

OTHER

While I do prefer “Alex…”

I now use “Lex” as my professional name, because SAG-AFTRA (the Screen Actors Guild) only allows one person per name in their system.

When I did my first SAG project, there was already an “Alex Wilson” who worked on (I believe) Barney the Purple Dinosaur.

I do have some writing and acting credits as “Alex Wilson” prior to 2014, and “Alexander Wilson” prior to 2005.

Sure. Thanks for thinking of me.
